What caught your attention about Juliet?
Oh, my Juliet… She is the meaning of love at first sight. Everything about her captivated me that night at the dance: the way she moved, her pale and soft skin, her wavy brown hair, her eyes, her gaze, and her smile when she spoke. And little by little, I realized that she was everything I was looking for.
What prompted you to marry Juliet?
Well… When I saw her I couldn’t stop to think for even a minute, everything about her captivated me, her presence overshadowed everyone else, and just by seeing her I understood that she was the ideal woman for me, her existence in that room confirmed it, I wanted her with me for the rest of my life.
Do you think it was hasty to marry Juliet?
No, the moment I met her, I didn’t want to wait any longer to get married. I wanted her close from the very first second I saw her. Julieta is the only love of my life, and meeting her that day was a dream come true and a coincidence. I consider it the best decision of my life…
How did you feel when Mercutio was killed?
Mercutio was my best friend; I considered him my brother. That wretch Tybalt acted repulsively and killed him. He had no right to do so, and I felt compelled to act after his terrible deed… I have no words for what happened.
How did you feel about being exiled from Verona without being able to say goodbye to Juliet?
Being exiled from Verona devastated me. I couldn’t bear the thought of leaving Juliet without being able to say goodbye. Every step I took away from her felt unbearable, as if my heart were being ripped from my chest. Being away from Juliet was the deepest pain I had ever felt.
How did you feel when you learned that Julieta had died?
I couldn’t process any of the words Balthasar said to me. I knew for sure that my life without her would be meaningless and that there would be no happiness in it… Only death remained.
Everything inside me crumbled. I couldn’t imagine a world without her, and the pain was profound. In that instant, I felt that nothing mattered anymore, because my life had died with hers.
Do you hold a feud against the Capulets?
No, I have no ill will toward the Capulets. Although the suffering stemmed from the rivalry between our families, loving Juliet made me understand that hatred is pointless. I wish both families could put their anger behind them.
